How Vincit helped one of Finland's biggest retailers to improve their customer experience

Kesko is a major retailer of groceries and consumer goods in Finland. Vincit implemented their new and future-proof K-Citymarket webstore to modernize how customers find and purchase clothes, beauty products, toys, electronics, and more. The new webstore is a key part of Kesko’s growth strategy by providing customers with a wider product assortment while making it easy to find and purchase non-food products. This contributes to increasing sales while greatly improving the overall customer experience when shopping in stores and online.

Creating a new contact point for an omnichannel customer journey

Kesko already has the popular K-Ruoka online store for shopping groceries that meets the growing demand for online shopping and saves customers’ valuable time. After doing customer surveys and analysis, Kesko decided to create a new webstore for non-food products under the K-Citymarket brand. The new online store opened at the beginning of September 2023.

The website design focused on ease of use with features like item availability at brick-and-mortar stores and including several delivery options to make the customer experience as good as possible – while also increasing sales. With the concept completed, Kesko then collaborated with Vincit to make the webstore a reality to better serve their end customers with an omnichannel approach.

The spirit of this project has been excellent. We worked closely together as a joint team throughout the project to make sure it was implemented according to business needs. Vincit made a comprehensive comparison of different technology platforms and recommended the best overall solution that could enable all the necessary functions and that supports our future business goals. They really went the extra mile for us.

Managing the technical side

Before starting this case, we undertook an extensive study to look more closely at the technical aspects. Based on these results, we recommended the Spryker cloud commerce platform as it’s both powerful and versatile considering Kesko's future development needs. We integrated the needed backend services like product information, campaigns, and availability information and took care of the development and architecture. Our experience with implementing ecommerce solutions like this was a key factor in making this part of the project a success.
