Mastering and modernizing Power BI
Vincit partnered with Enersense International Plc to modernize its enterprise analytics by transitioning from a legacy reporting system to a scalable Power BI infrastructure. Through clear governance planning and the monitoring tool, the partnership improved data literacy and gave the organization secure, self-service access to business intelligence.
Enersense International Plc is a provider of zero-emission energy solutions. The company is deeply involved in supporting the ongoing energy transition and enabling a zero-emission society. In 2022, the Enersense Group's turnover was €282 million. The company employs around 2,000 people and operates both in Finland and internationally.
The challenge - an outdated reporting system
Enersense needed to replace an outdated legacy reporting system with a modernized Power BI environment built on a sustainable data governance framework. Vincit provided the strategic roadmap and governance models required to scale analytics capabilities, expand the user base, and remove operational data silos.
The company needed extra hands to overhaul its reporting solution. An old system that had been used for years was being retired, and the company needed a clear plan, including a roadmap and a governance model, to roll out the new setup successfully.
The goal was to boost data literacy across the organization, grow the reporting user base, and build a rock-solid foundation for future self-service capabilities. We helped guide them through the change.
"We wanted insight and know-how for expanding Power BI use. Self-service analytics was at the core of the solution."
Einari Rännäli, Head of Data & Analytics / Enersense International Plc
Team not only helped in the implementation of Power BI, but also taught us to utilize its full potential. Their team was always available answering our questions quickly and expertly. It has been great to see the effects of the work especially in the form of the growth of user numbers.

The approach
Enersense's legacy reporting system lacked centralized governance, which led to disconnected departmental data models and restricted the scalability of Power BI. Vincit addressed this infrastructure gap by building a unified framework to transform siloed data practices into organized business insights.
Enersense’s legacy reporting system had reached the end of the road. While Power BI was already being adopted in some pockets of the organization, there was a lack of shared ground rules. Different departments were building reports and data models according to their own standards.
Without a centralized governance model, development, distribution, and communication practices fell entirely on individual users. This siloed approach was blocking the company from unlocking the full potential of Power BI. The environment desperately needed unified practices so that users could stop wrestling with the system and focus on what really mattered: solving business problems with data.
The solution
The journey of change began with grasping the bigger picture. We helped Enersense create a vision for the use of Power BI as part of data-driven leadership, and mapped the current state of the solution's use. After this, we moved on to tackle the governance model. The idea was to find a balance between managing the environments and enabling users. As part of the governance model, we delivered our monitoring tool, so Enersense can follow Power BI activity and see the vision come to life in real time.
We helped Enersense modernize its data strategy and analytics, giving its business intelligence a real boost.
